Les Trois Lacs

The village of Les Trois Lacs, located in Normandy (Eure department), was created on January 1, 2017. It brings together the villages of Bernières-sur-Seine, Tosny, and Venables, and takes its name from the three large lakes within its territory. It has 1,748 inhabitants and stands out for the remarkable scenic and environmental richness of one of the most beautiful meanders of the River Seine.

From Prehistory to the present day, the history of the villages and their closely connected heritage has developed over time. Within this rich historical legacy, three major entities stand out:

  • The Lordship of Venables, where Gilbert de Venables lived, whose name is now borne by more than 4,800 people worldwide.
  • The Norman family of Tosny/Conches, a lineage that, from the 11th century onward, actively participated in the early Norman expansions across medieval Europe.
  • The Maignard family, closely associated with the Marquisate of Bernières-sur-Seine, which left a lasting mark on the political, judicial, and social life of Normandy.

These emblematic figures profoundly influenced the history of Normandy and extended their impact far beyond its borders, particularly in Italy, Spain, and England.

Located in the Seine-Normandy basin, the Commune Nouvelle des Trois Lacs offers an ideal setting for relaxation, fishing, and water-based activities. This largely rural and wooded area is home to several remarkable sites, including the Romanesque churches of Bernières and Venables, the feudal motte of Venables, and the former mill of Tosny.

Les Trois Lacs also features a marina, the Tolysland amusement park, guesthouses and holiday accommodations, as well as outstanding hiking trails in the heart of the protected site of the Seine Loop known as Château-Gaillard.

It is a destination that combines nature, history, heritage, and leisure, offering an ideal way to discover Normandy from a different perspective.
